Diethylenetriaminepenta(methylene-phosphonic acid) is a commonly used corrosion and scale inhibitor. It is a brown to reddish-brown viscous liquid with low toxicity. Molecular formula: C₉H₂₈O₁₅N₃P₅, relative molecular weight 573.2. Soluble in acidic solutions, it forms polynuclear complexes with steel ions in water. Easily dispersible in water, it suppresses crystallization and growth of calcium carbonate and sulfate scales, delivering outstanding scale inhibition performance.

Diethylenetriaminepenta(methylene-phosphonic acid) (DTPMP) is applied in wastewater pollutant research and as a component of phosphorus-containing materials, including chitosan nanoparticles for plutonium pulmonary decorporation. Its solution is ideal for studying sodium sulfate crystallization kinetics with organophosphonic acids. It also acts as a ligand for characterizing Ce³⁺ complexes via luminescence spectroscopy.
