Product Description of Quaternium-15 CAS#4080-31-3
Quaternium-15 (CAS 51229-78-8) is a quaternary ammonium compound used as preservative and antimicrobial agent in cosmetics, personal care products and industrial formulations. It inhibits microbial growth by releasing formaldehyde to stabilize product shelf life. With broad-spectrum efficacy against bacteria, fungi and yeast, it is cost-effective yet may cause skin sensitization via formaldehyde release, limited to ≤0.2% in the EU under Directive 76/768/EEC. Its structure contains quaternary nitrogen and chlorallyl groups, offering cationic surfactant performance and sustained biocidal activity.
