Acid Red 18 (carmine) is an approved food colorant, applicable in fruit juice drinks, compound alcoholic drinks, carbonated drinks, candies, cakes, ice cream and yogurt. It is restricted from use in dried meat, meat products and aquatic products, to avoid covering inferior or deteriorated raw materials and misleading consumers.In compliance with China GB2760-1996 standard, its usage scope and maximum dosage are consistent with amaranth. The maximum dosage is 0.1g/kg for candy color coatings and soybean milk beverages, 0.025g/kg for red sausage casings, with a residual limit of 0.01g/kg.
