Sodium hexametaphosphate is a sodium metaphosphate polymer, also called sodium polymetaphosphate, vitreous sodium metaphosphate and Graham’s salt. It is a colorless transparent glassy solid or white powder, slowly soluble in water to form a weakly acidic aqueous solution.

Hydroquinone is widely used in analytical chemistry for colorimetric determination of phosphorus, magnesium, niobium, copper, silicon and arsenic, and applied in polarographic and volumetric analysis for iridium detection. It acts as a reducing agent for heteropoly acids, copper and gold, and is used to test phosphate, tungstate, nitrate, nitrite, selenium and tellurium. It also serves as a photographic developer, antioxidant, desulfurizer in fertilizer industry, and urea synergist in relevant fields.
