High Reactivity for Chemical Synthesis: Hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) reacts slowly with water, making it suitable for controlled chemical reactions in polymer and coating applications.
Stable Liquid Form: Exists as a colorless or slightly yellow liquid at room temperature, facilitating handling and storage.
Wide Thermal Range: With a melting point of −67 to −55°C and a boiling point of 255–261°C, HDI is stable over a broad temperature range.
Low Solubility in Water: Slight water solubility allows it to maintain performance in formulations where minimal hydrolysis is desired.

Hexamethylene diisocyanate is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a pungent odor. It is slightly soluble in water and reacts slowly upon contact. The compound has a relative density of approximately 1.05 at room temperature, a boiling point of 255–261°C, and a melting (freezing) point of −67 to −55°C. The saturated vapor concentrations are 46 mg/m³ at 20°C and 137 mg/m³ at 30°C.
