Product Description

Acid Neutralization: Reacts with acids and forms calcium hydroxide on contact with water, supporting pH adjustment in suitable treatment processes.

Reactive Hydration: Reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide with substantial heat release; moisture control is essential during storage and handling.

Versatile Industrial Use: Used as a flux in steelmaking and as a raw material for lime-based construction products and calcium compounds.

Storage & Handling: Keep tightly sealed in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from moisture and separated from acids. Avoid dust inhalation and contact with eyes or skin; use suitable protective equipment.

Product Description of Calcium Oxide CAS#1305-78-8

Calcium oxide, commonly known as quicklime or burnt lime, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CaO and a molar mass of 56.08 g/mol. The pure substance is a white, odorless solid; commercial grades may appear off-white or grayish depending on their composition. It is commonly produced by calcining limestone and can be supplied in lump, granular or powdered forms, depending on the grade. Calcium oxide reacts with water to form calcium hydroxide, releasing substantial heat, and gradually reacts with carbon dioxide in the presence of moisture to form calcium carbonate. Its basicity and reactivity make it an important industrial raw material.

Product Application of Calcium Oxide CAS#1305-78-8

Calcium oxide is widely used as a flux in iron and steel production to help form slag and remove impurities. In water and wastewater treatment, it is used for pH adjustment, acid neutralization and selected precipitation processes. It is also a raw material for hydrated lime, lime-based mortars and other construction products, and is used in the manufacture of calcium compounds. Additional applications include flue gas treatment and controlled soil stabilization. Product selection should consider available lime content, reactivity, particle size and impurity limits for the intended process.
